RONALD MCDONALD FOOD DRIVE
The idea behind the Orange County Ronald McDonald House is simple: provide a comfortable and affordable “home-away-from-home” for families of seriously ill children who are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.
Some children must travel great distances to get the medical attention they need. Hospital treatment may last a day, a month, or even longer. For the families of these children, accommodations can be hard to come by; options are often limited to costly hotels or unforgiving hospital chairs.
The Orange County Ronald McDonald House provides a comfortable, supportive alternative for these families. It serves as a temporary home near the medical facility where family members can sleep, eat, relax and find support from other families in similar situations. In return, families are asked to pay $5 per day; if that isn’t possible, their stay is free. The true cost of caring for one family per night is approximately $83.00. For this reason, the Orange County Ronald McDonald House seeks the support of the community -- individuals, foundations, corporations, service groups -- to help "bridge the gap".
It has been more than 16 years since the Orange County Ronald McDonald House opened its doors. During that time, our Charity has helped more than 8,000 families during perhaps the most stressful time in their lives.
This year has been an extremely busy one for our House. Most nights we are at 100% occupancy. It is a clear signal that we may need to add more guest rooms so we can provide a refuge from the stress for even more families with very sick children.
Our events around the community this year have all exceeded our expectations. The Hearts for The House Campaign, where different organizations and businesses sold paper "Hearts" for $1, was a perfect example of the partnerships and support OCRMH enjoys from the Orange County community. In one month we raised more than $30,000. In addition, we continue to have an amazing group of McDonald's owner-operators who partner with us in all the work we do.
Remember that behind each program, behind each story, there are the people – staff, volunteers, and donors – who have helped fill this house with love.
